From the first broadcast on July 12, 1946 The Adventures of Sam Spade was a hit. Originally airing ABC and sponsored by Wildroot Cream Oil, the show starred Howard Duff until his departure for the big screen in September of 1950 when Steve Dunne took over the title roll.
